GENEVA 2011: NISSAN SEES GT-R DOING 2 SECONDS!

While the world of enthusiasts watched in awe as the 2008 Nissan GT-R lapped the Nurburgring in a controversial 7 minutes and 29 seconds, some wondered if this really wasn’t the start and not the end of Godzilla’s new saga. Barely a year later it dipped 7:26.7 at the same ‘Ring, and cemented itself as one desirable and affordable supercar.

Since it bumped power to 390kW and torque to 612Nm, we haven’t heard about any more records shattered at the “green hell”, but rest assured we’ll hear something by June this year. More importantly, Nissan, as it took the cover sheets off at Geneva 2011, says the new car’s 3 second sprint off to 100km/h is not enough! Within the car’s lifetime the engineering team will have achieved something in the 2 seconds, they reckon.

IN4RIDE has never tested the old GT-R and we don’t expect to test the new one either, given Nissan South Africa’s tight-fisted nature when it comes to that car. Nevertheless SA publications that do performance testing have so far not been able to achieve anything close to the times claimed by Nissan.
