TopGear magazineis coming to Mzansi! For a few months it was said to be firmly in the hands ofSunday Times and Sunday Worldpublisher AVUSA. But now it has beenconfirmed to be NASPERS, the publisherof such magazines at TopCar, You andDrum. The deal comes after only a few weeks of negotiations between the twoparties, following the disintegrationof talks between BBC Magazines and AVUSA.
“Top Gear is the biggest motoring media brand in the world. We're very excited about working with BBC Magazines in bringing this highlyenriched experience in motoring magazinejournalism to South Africa,” JohnRelihan, CEO of Media24 (owned by NASPERS) magazines said.
The new editor of Top Gear SA will be Pierre Steyn, who has been editing TopCar magazine for the past fouryears. There is no word on what type of content we can expect from the TGSA,suffice to say it will not only feature localstories but will also draw upon the BBC TopGear mother ship. The coverprice - currently at about R140 forthe fully imported current Top Gearmagazine - was also not mentioned. Mind you, its biggest Mzansi rivals CAR andTopCar sell at about R30 a piece.
Top Gear SA will be on the newsstands across the countryfrom 24 October.
